Our Mandate

The Auxiliary to University Hospital of Northern B.C. has been an integral part of the hospital since 1919 except  during the war years when it was not actively functioning. We are a non-profit community based society that is committed to the enhancement of health care in our hospital. Our strength lies with our members who dedicate their time, support and knowledge in one of our many services.

To provide resources, volunteers and funding.

To foster and promote the well-being and comfort of patients.

To provide scholarships and bursaries to students attending public post-secondary Institutions.

To operate a Thrift Shop and Gift Shop to generate income to support the above purposes.

First Floor Medical Services Information – these volunteers greet patients who come to the first floor for medical services like x-ray or day surgery or hemodialysis!  They help patients find their way around the maze of services offered at this part of the hospital.

Thrift Shop – these volunteers have a four hour shift Monday to Saturday.  They organize donated items, stock the floor and run the till.  Training is provided.

Patient Menu Services – these volunteers visit with patients directly to help them liason with dietary staff while they are in the hospital.

Gift Shop – these volunteers work  three hour shifts in the hospital Gift Shop from Monday to Friday.  Training is provided on using a computerized till and on line lottery sales.

Knitters – these volunteers knit baby items to sell at the gift shop!  The cost of the yarn is reimbursed but often we get bunches of donated yarn!  This is something you can do at home to help the hospital
